Evoked potentials (EP)
Evoked potentials (EP) are functional measurements of the visual, auditory, sensory and motor pathways.
What are evoked potentials (EP)
When measuring evoked potentials (EP), bioelectrical activities of the brain are registered that arise in response to certain external stimuli (visual, acoustic, sensory). These examinations are valuable for detecting disturbances in the pathway systems involved in the transmission of these external stimuli.
Evoked potential (EP) measurement — procedure
In order to measure the potentials, electrodes are attached to the patient’s head, which measure the brain waves. Specific visual, acoustic or sensory potentials lead to a minimal change in brainwave activity in certain areas of the brain. As a result, conduction and processing disorders can be recognized by the form and temporal occurrence of these stimulus responses.
